Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B)

Serves as the primary provider of out-of-hospital emergency medical care and efficient, safe medical transportation within the EMS system. Operating under medical direction and utilizing the essential equipment found on a standard ambulance, the EMT-Basic delivers basic life support interventions to stabilize critical and emergent patients across both life-threatening emergencies and routine medical transfers.

Emergency Medical Responder

The foundational tier of the EMS system. Operating with limited equipment, the EMR is trained to provide immediate, lifesaving care to critical patients who access the EMS systems. EMRs possess the essential knowledge and skills necessary to initiate immediate interventions while awaiting additional, higher-level EMS resources.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

For Certified EMT-Basics

Provides basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the EMS system. Operating under medical oversight and utilizing the advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance, the AEMT builds upon foundational basic life support skills to perform invasive interventions and administer select medications to safely stabilize patients.
